Medrio Launches New CTMS as First Step Toward One Connected Clinical Trial Platform
PR Newswire
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 3, 2026
Medrio CTMS, built for small and scaling sponsors and CROs, is available now through the Early Adopter Program ahead of general availability in early 2027.
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ – Medrio, a clinical trial technology company, today announced the availability of its new Medrio CTMS through its Early Adopter Program. The company’s clinical trial management system (CTMS) is built for small and scaling sponsors and contract research organizations (CROs). It is the first product built on Medrio’s new connected clinical trial platform.
How sponsors and CROs are shaping Medrio CTMS
Medrio CTMS is being shaped by customers through the company’s Early Adopter Program. Participating sponsors and CROs provide hands-on workflow feedback before general availability.
PharPoint Research, a full-service CRO and Medrio customer since 2010, joined the program after two costly evaluations of other CTMS offerings over the past decade. Its team encountered expensive customizations, unresolved integration issues, and unanswered feature requests.
PharPoint’s clinical operations team has worked with Medrio’s product team since the first design conversations, helping shape Medrio CTMS around real clinical workflows. “We never once heard ‘that’s not how our system works,'” said Jayme Swinson, Vice President of Operations at PharPoint Research. “To be part of development from the ground up was a breath of fresh air.”
“The result is a CTMS that fits our workflows instead of the other way around,” said Maribeth Owings, Director of Clinical Operations at PharPoint Research.
Why Medrio is building a natively connected clinical trial platform
Emerging biotechs are developing 72% of the U.S. clinical pipeline and were behind 36 of the 54 novel drugs the FDA approved in 2024. Yet EY found that at the end of 2025, 33% of public U.S. and European biotechs had less than a year of cash on hand.
The companies behind most new medicines cannot afford to waste time or money. Many still run trials on paper and spreadsheets or piece together technology one tool at a time. Sites can manage up to 22 systems per trial, and coordinators spend up to 12 hours a week re-entering data. Integrations between systems move data between tools; they do not create a connected experience for users.
Medrio is taking a different approach. Instead of connecting separate tools after the fact, the company is building its new products on one architecture, with one login and one connected experience. Each product is designed with and validated by the people who will use it.
Founder and CEO Mike Novotny created the company in 2005. His vision was that clinical trial software should be the easy button, not another burden. He returned as CEO in 2025 to finish that work.
“Medrio exists because technology should never be what slows down science. It’s why I came back,” said Novotny. “Some of what makes a trial hard is necessary to protect the science and participants. But most of what makes a trial hard is inherited from technology that was never designed to fit together. Our customers are not asking us for another product. They are asking for one experience that keeps the rigor and gets rid of everything else.”
Early Adopters are validating more than Medrio CTMS
Customers are using three new Medrio products through the Early Adopter Program, including in live studies, and their real-world feedback informs ongoing product development. Medrio CTMS is available at Level 3, while Medrio eTMF and Medrio Site Payments are available at Level 2.
Each product will continue progressing through customer validation ahead of broader availability. The next generation of Medrio EDC is planned for release in early 2027. Medrio continues to support its existing products in parallel and does not require customers to migrate active studies. Learn more about Medrio CTMS and the Early Adopter Program at medrio.com/ctms.
