Glaseco B.V. has added steel window frame installation to its service range, offering homeowners, architects, and commercial property managers a high-strength framing option with the thinnest sightlines available in the window industry. The Hoofddorp-based window and door company now supplies and installs three steel window systems manufactured by Forster, a Swiss producer of steel and stainless steel profile systems for building construction: the Unico XS, the Unico, and the Presto.

Steel window frames are constructed from hot-rolled or cold-formed steel sections that are welded into fixed or operable window units. The structural strength of steel allows the frame profiles to be significantly narrower than equivalent PVC, aluminium, or wooden frames while supporting the same or greater glass surface area. The result is a window with more visible glass and less visible frame, which is the primary reason steel frames are specified by architects for projects where maximizing natural light and maintaining clean sightlines are design priorities.

The Unico XS is the slimmest profile in the Forster range, designed for projects where minimal frame visibility is the primary requirement. The system achieves narrow face widths while maintaining the structural integrity needed to support double-glazed and triple-glazed units in standard residential and commercial window dimensions. The standard Unico profile offers a wider construction depth that accommodates heavier glazing configurations and larger window openings, making it suitable for floor-to-ceiling installations and curtain wall applications in commercial and industrial buildings. The Presto system is engineered for high-performance thermal insulation, featuring a thermally broken steel profile that reduces heat transfer through the frame and achieves U-values comparable to insulated aluminium systems.

Steel window frames installed by Glaseco B.V. can be equipped with security hardware certified to SKG two-star and SKG three-star standards, the Dutch classification system for burglar-resistant building components administered by the Centre for Criminalistics and Security Sciences. SKG two-star certification indicates that the lock and hardware combination resisted forced entry attempts for a minimum of three minutes under standardized testing conditions. SKG three-star certification extends that resistance threshold to five minutes. In addition to certified locking systems, steel window installations can include core pull protection and laminated safety glass, which holds together when broken rather than shattering into fragments.

The combination of steel construction and certified security hardware makes steel window frames significantly more difficult to force open than frames built from other materials. The rigidity of the steel profile resists prying and bending forces that would deform a PVC or aluminium frame under the same load. For residential properties in areas with elevated burglary risk, and for commercial premises that store high-value inventory or equipment, steel window frames provide a level of physical resistance that other frame materials cannot match at the same profile dimensions.

Steel window frames are finished with powder-coated paint applied in a factory environment. The powder coating process bonds a layer of pigmented resin to the steel surface through electrostatic application followed by heat curing in an oven. The resulting finish is harder and more scratch-resistant than liquid paint, and it provides long-term protection against corrosion from moisture, salt air, and ultraviolet exposure. Glaseco B.V. offers steel window frames in the full RAL color range, which includes several hundred standardized colors organized into categories covering yellows, oranges, reds, purples, blues, greens, greys, browns, blacks, and whites. The most frequently specified colors for residential steel window projects are RAL 9005 jet black, RAL 7016 anthracite grey, and RAL 9010 pure white.

Steel frames are frequently specified for industrial-style residential interiors, loft conversions, heritage building restorations where original steel windows are being replaced in kind, and modern architectural projects where the designer wants the narrowest possible frame profile. The material is also used in commercial and institutional buildings where fire-rated window assemblies are required, as steel maintains its structural integrity at temperatures that would cause other frame materials to deform or ignite.
